IU Health Bedford Emergency Department

The IU Health Bedford emergency department is Indiana's busiest critical access emergency department serving more than 22,000 patients. Equipped with full lab and imaging capabilities, Bloomington Hospital serves as a receiving facility for patients requiring specialty services. The hospital provides comprehensive emergency care to its community and is the only hospital in Lawrence County. Members of this community are greatly appreciative to be able to receive care near their home, and often do not seek health care frequently leading to increased acuity when they choose to. As a resident, you will hone your skills managing the undifferentiated and critically ill patient here, without the additional resources you have at a larger emergency department.

The local population includes many farmers, trade workers and Amish communities, creating a distinct and appreciative community atmosphere. You will develop a strong rapport with your nursing colleagues who are members of the community and partner closely with you to provide care to the sickest of patients in this small town.
